FAQT-0001: My old nDAC Base Pro user login is not recognized!
Q: I have nDAC Base Pro on my system. I acquired all of the data files for that package. I just tried to go to my account using my existing account login, only to find that I am not recognised! What's happening there?
A: The accounts are not synchronized in the two systems. Download nDAC 2.0 or later from the website and create a new account in the software. When you are done and have started nDAC 2.0 or later you can import the data from nDAC Base Pro if you wish. Just click File -> Import -> Airport Database (nDAC Base Pro 1.0).
FAQT-0002: Is the nDAC software free?
Q: Is the nDAC software "free"? Do I only pay for the maps I purchase?
A: Yes, nDAC is free in the sense that nothing is charged for the software as such. The only thing you pay for is the credits you give in exchange for aeronautical chart data. As soon as you have charged your account with some credits nDAC will pop out of demo mode and become a full-blown application.
FAQT-0003: What is error -999?
Q: I always get error -999 when I try to login to my account. What is this and what can I do?
A: Error -999 occurs when your webbrowser is unable to retain a session. A session is a sort of cookie that is stored on your computer and we use this to authenticate you when you are logged in to your account. Some firewall software offer a setting where this cookie can be blocked and will you need to allow us to use this cookie in order for you to be able to login to your account. Below are instructions on how to adjust some of the most common firewall software.
- In Zone Alarm, select Privacy.
- Under Cookie Control, click Custom.
-
- Uncheck the box that says "Block session cookies"
- Uncheck the box that says "Block persistent cookies"
- Uncheck the box that says "Remove private header information".
- Uncheck the box that says "Expire Cookies"
- Click OK.
- Double click on the Norton Personal Firewall icon in the tray.
- Click on the Open option in the pop-up menu.
- Click the Options icon in the Norton SystemWorks menu box.
- Click on the Personal Firewall option in the Options menu box.
- Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom of the Norton Personal Firewall Options menu box to retrieve the default settings menu box.
- Make sure you are in the "Web" tab. There may be several domains already listed in this area.
- Click on the Add Site button at the bottom of the Web defaults window.
- You will need to enter "www2.navigraph.com" and "www.navigraph.com" (without the quotes) as a new default. This should activate the default rules section of that window.
- Make sure the Cookies and Referer (under Browsing Privacy) are set to permit as a default rule for the www2.navigraph.com and www.navigraph.com domains.
- Click OK, then click OK again.
- Right-click the red "M" icon by your system clock.
- Click "Privacy Service".
- Click "Options".
- The McAfee Privacy Service window appears. Click the "Cookies" tab.
- Enter each website address from which you would like to allow cookies(www2.navigraph.com and www.navigraph.com).
- Click "Add."
- Once completed, close the window.
FAQT-0004: How do I use the box zoom feature?
Q: I couldn't find the box zoom tool. Where is it and how do I use it?
A: The box zoom feature is located on the "middle button" of the mouse, i.e. the scroll wheel. Press the scroll wheel and create a box around the region on the chart where you would like to zoom in.
FAQT-0005: The XYZ airport is missing in your database, could you add it?
Q: Charts for some African airports are missing. Are you able to add Kilimanjaro (HTKJ) to the database?
A: We unfortunately have no influence over which airports are provided and which are not. It is entirely up to our data provider. When they have an airline customer requesting a particular airport, it will be added. Apparently none of their customers fly to HTKJ (yet).
FAQT-0006: How can I print charts full size on A4?
Q: How can I print charts full size on A4?
A: The charts are natively in A5 format as this is the paper size of the Route Manual (the product our data provided sells to airlines). If you'd like to print them in a larger paper format you'd need to do a manual rescale (which differs from every printer). Normally a scaling of 140% does the trick. Some printers even ask what size the document is and what size paper you use, in this case choose A5 for document size and A4 for paper size.
FAQT-0007: What happens If I'd like to reinstall my OS?
Q: What happens If I'd like to reinstall my OS? Do I have to do something with the charts I have downloaded?
A: nDAC 2 - Before you uninstall nDAC 2.0 you must backup all your airports. This feature is available in the File -> Export -> Airport Database menu. When nDAC 2.0 is reinstalled you may import the airports you had before with the File -> Import -> Airport Database (nDAC 2.0). Note that this procedure replaces the database. All airports you have downloaded between the point of backup and restore of backup will disappear. Also note that with an import even routes/bookmarks/notes etc are replaced with the imported data. A: nDAC 3 - Before you uninstall nDAC 3.0 you must backup all your data. This feature is available in the File -> Export menu. When nDAC 3 is reinstalled you may import the airports you had before with the File -> Import. nDAC 3 imports do not overwrite your existing data. However routes/bookmarks/notes etc will not be backupped, only the chart data.
FAQT-0008: Can I use nDAC on multiple machines in the same place?
Q: Can I use nDAC on multiple machines in the same place? For example, can I use it from my desktop and my notebook?
A: Yes. However, to prevent account sharing and piracy, you must pay for data downloaded to the second installation - even if you have already download the same data to the first installation. In order to get the data to the second installation you must use the import and export function in nDAC. Please remember to register both installations to the same account.
FAQT-0009: Will I need to install nDAC in order to download FMS Data?
Q: I'd like to download FMS Data but my system configuration doens't support the nDAC software. Do I need it?
A: No. The FMS Data is made available for direct download on the Navigraph website.
FAQT-0010: Is there a way to immediately access an installed airport in nDAC?
Q: Is there a way to immediately access an installed airport in nDAC without scrolling the country/airport list?
A: Yes. The Ctrl+G command lets you type an ICAO code to go directly to that airport.
FAQT-0011: Is there a demo for nDAC?
Q: I'd like to try out nDAC. Is there a demo available?
A: Yes. Download nDAC and install it. When you register you will be given 6 credits to use during a 10-day demo period. You can download 3 new airports or update 6 old ones (if importing data from nDAC Base Pro) with these credits. As soon as you charge your account with some credits nDAC will exit demo mode and you can use it beyond the 10-day limit.
FAQT-0012: Why do I always get an error saying "Network error: No connection" when using nDAC?
Q: I downloaded and installed nDAC without any problems. When I start it I get an error saying "Network error: No connection". What is the problem?
A: nDAC seems to have troubles accessing the Internet. Try the following steps to see where the problem lies:
- Does it always happen? The server could be temporarily unavailable.
- Can you access www2.navigraph.com and ndac.navigraph.com with the Internet Explorer browser from the same computer as you have installed nDAC?
- Do you have any firewall like ZoneAlarm or Norton Personal Firewall installed? If so, disable it temporarily and try again.
- Do you have any popup blocking software like AdSubtract? If so, disable it temporarily and try again. (Some antivirus software like Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 has a built in popup-blocker that might cause problems.)
- Do you run a hardware firewall with web proxy? If so, disable it temporarily and try again.
- Do you need to go through a proxy server for Internet access? If so, specify the proxy server and port in the Proxy Settings window of the Connection Settings tab in the nDAC Settings. Access the nDAC Settings from the Connection Settings button in the registration window, or through File -> Settings in the main window.
FAQT-0013: Why aren't the charts for HKJK updated since October 2003?
Q: I downloaded the charts for HKJK, and they are all from October 2003. Why aren't the charts updated since then?
A: The charts are updated when changes are made to the data. Therefore a chart can be old but still up to date.
IMPORTANT: In the event you find any errors in the charts corresponding to changes that were made before the current WEF, please send us a report and we will notify our data provider. If it is a confirmed error it will be corrected for the next revision.
FAQT-0014: The charts for Bristol, EGGD, in UK are out dated!
Q: The charts for Bristol, EGGD, in UK are out dated!
A: The changes came into effect in August 2006, which is after our current WEF in that revision, namely July 2006. This is an example of how changes can occur after we have released the data. Normally these changes should be in effect from the next revision.
IMPORTANT: In the event you find any errors in the charts corresponding to changes that were made before the current WEF, please send us a report and we will notify our data provider. If it is a confirmed error it will be corrected for the next revision.
Q: Something went wrong with my nDAC installation so I ran the Repair function. Now I get a critical error when starting nDAC, saying that my licensing information is incorrect! What can I do to get nDAC running without losing my downloaded charts?
A: Download the latest version of nDAC. Versions from 2.0.2500.0 will resolves the issue of registry error/invalid licensing, and will also allow for a reinstall of nDAC without losing any downloaded data.
Before you install it you should make backups of the data already downloaded. Follow the procedure below:
- Make backups of the file /db/app.data and all the *.apt files in the /data/apt/ directory in your nDAC 2.0 installation directory. Normally the installation directory is C:\Program files\Navigraph\nDAC 2.0\. You can for example copy them to a new temporary directory called C:\NavigraphTemp\.
- Uninstall nDAC 2.0.
- Install the new version of nDAC 2.0. When you get the registration screen, type your username and password.
- Close nDAC 2.0.
- Replace the app.data file in the C:\Program files\Navigraph\nDAC 2.0\db\ directory with the one you had backupped (C:\NavigraphTemp\app.data).
- Paste all the .apt files in your backup folder (C:\NavigraphTemp\*.apt) to the C:\Program files\Navigraph\nDAC 2.0\data\apt\ directory.
- Start the new version of nDAC 2.0, and you should be able to continue working as normal.
FAQT-0016: Can I reinstall nDAC without losing my charts?
Q: I need to reinstall nDAC. Will I lose my charts, or what can I do to save them?
A: Versions before 2.0.2500.0 will not save your downloaded airports through a reinstallation. You must make a backup of them before uninstalling nDAC (File -> Export -> Airport Database...). Before installing, make sure you install the latest version. After installing you can restore the backup using the import function (File -> Import -> Airport Database (nDAC 2.0)...).
FAQT-0017: I had a hard drive failure and have lost my downloaded charts. How do I get them back?
Q: I had a hard drive failure and have lost my downloaded charts. How do I get them back?
A: Restore your backup using the import function (File -> Import -> Airport Database (nDAC 2.0)...). If you do not have a backup there is unfortunately no way to restore downloaded airports after losing your nDAC installation.
FAQT-0018: What is the price for downloading FMS Data?
Q: I am interested in downloading FMS data to my addons, but cannot find the price on your website. How much does it cost?
A: Read about the FMS Data service and the pricing here.
FAQT-0019: How do I print an enroute chart? It is too big to be printed on A4 paper!
Q: I want to print an enroute chart but it is unreadable on A4 paper. What can I do?
A: Many printers have a function called "Poster Printing" or "Tile large pages". This function will split the document in several A4/letter size papers. If your printer does not support this you may use Adobe® Acrobat Professional. First print the enroute chart to a PDF document using Adobe® PDF Writer, then open this PDF document in Adobe® Acrobat Professional and print it using the "Tile large pages" option in the print settings.
FAQT-0020: Will an import from nDAC 2 to nDAC 3 overwrite my data?
Q: I have just downloaded nDAC 3 to check out the new functions, and have downloaded some enroute charts. Now when I want to import old data from my installed nDAC 2 it says the data will be overwritten! What can I do, will I loose my enroute charts?
A: Yes an import from nDAC 2 to nDAC 3 will overwrite any nDAC 3 data/charts. To avoid loosing newly downloaded nDAC 3 data you must first export these to a file using the [File -> Export] functions in nDAC 3. After the nDAC 2 data has been imported you can import these nDAC 3 data files - they will not overwrite any data. Any data exported from nDAC 3 may be imported back without overwriting any data (except the imported items naturally).
FAQT-0021: How do I restore nDAC 3 data after an nDAC 2 import?
Q: I have already imported the nDAC 2 database after downloading enroute charts, and did not make an enroute chart export as described in FAQ 20. Is there anything I can do?
A: The nDAC 2 import is not cumulative, it replaces the current data. The import dialog tells you this. If you did not make an export as described in FAQ 20 you can restore the data by following this instruction.
In your nDAC installation folder, there is a database folder called \db\. Go there and you should see one file called "app.data" (your current database file), and "app.data_bakXXYYZZ" (the backupped database containing references to the enroute charts you downloaded, where XXYYZZ is date and time for the backup). If you have several such files it is because there have been several backups taken. Use the one you believe contains your enroute charts, i.e. with a date closest after you performed the downloads. This is what you should do:
- Close nDAC.
- Temporarily rename the "app.data" to "app.data.temp".
- Temporarily rename the "app.data_bakXXYYZZ" to app.data.
- Start nDAC. You should now again see your enroute charts. Check that you can open them.
- Export the enroute charts using the function [File -> Export -> Enroute Chart Database...], save the file somewhere.
- Close nDAC.
- Revert the temporary name changes. First rename "app.data" to "app.data_bakXXYYZZ" (XXYYZZ could be anything now, it is just a backup file). You can even remove it if you don“t want to keep the backup. Then rename "app.data.temp" to "app.data".
- Start nDAC. You should now see the nDAC 2 imported airports again.
- Import the enroute charts using [File -> Import -> Enroute Chart Database...]. You should now have both the airports and enroute charts.
FAQT-0022: What is error -107?
Q: I tried to create a new user account and the system responded "Error (-107): Cannot create account. Blacklisted email domain." What does it mean?
A: Error -107 is returned when someone tries to register a user account (or update an existing user account) with an email address that originates from a domain which has been noted on an Internet Service Provider blacklist. This means that you cannot use this email address, and must use an email address from another domain or ISP.
The error -107 may also appear in the nDAC software. Up until nDAC 3.0.4.0 this error message was not implemented, but was reported as an "unknown error (-107)", but the meaning is the same.
A domain/ISP is put on the blacklist when several email messages are not delivered to the user because of too restrictive ISP emailing policies. Navigraph service messages will not get through to the user. Normally the responsible ISP is contacted to resolve the problem, but in the cases no answer is given and no solution is found, no more users are accepted from this domain/ISP since it is an absolute requirement that the user can be reached via email.
The following domains are currently blacklisted:
amik.ru
andwork.net
arq142.com
club-internet.fr
club.fr
compuserve.de
cvmx.de
gazeta.pl
hanmail.com
hanmail.net
home.nl
invitel.hu
mail.lviv.ua
mchsi.com
paran.com
sat.poltava.ua
sbcglobal.net
ukrpost.net
via-rs.net
vnet.hu
yellowface.nl
zmail.ru
If your email address belongs to a blacklisted domain/ISP, contact your ISP's support department and explain the problem to them. Ask them to contact support{at}navigraph.com to find a solution and eventually be removed from the blacklist.
Q: I have downloaded a video training movie and I want to download the associated charts from the media library in the nDAC software. However, when I press the link to the zip archive it seems to download as expected, but once the file compression program opens, the zip archive appears to be empty.
A: This is a known bug in Microsoft Internet Explorer and is covered in the following Microsoft KB article 308090, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308090.
You must right click the zip icon and select "Save As..." to download to your Desktop. From here you can open the zip archive with a file decompresion program (like WinZip) and extract the chart files.
FAQT-0024: How does the annual FMS Data cycle package work?
Q: Is there any way to get an annual subscription of FMS Data?
A: Yes. You can now get a full year of FMS Data (13 cycles) for 200 credits. This is a good deal for you who need constantly updated data, as the 13 cycle package is 60 credits cheaper (23%) compared to when purchasing them individually. The annual cycle package can be used until the 13th cycle (counted from the current cycle at the time of purchase), as long as you keep your account - even if, at a later stage, your account balance is zero or in the event your credits expire.
FAQT-0025: Where does nDAC save downloaded data?
Q: Where on my hard drive does nDAC save the downloaded data?
A: The location of your local user folder depends on your operating system, and nDAC version. The following are the normal locations *:
nDAC 2.x: C:\Program Files\Navigraph\nDAC 2.0\
nDAC 3.0.0-3.0.2: C:\Program Files\Navigraph\nDAC 3\
nDAC 3.0.3+ (Windows XP) **: C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Navigraph\
nDAC 3.0.3+ (Windows Vista) **: C:\Users\[USER]\Roaming\AppData\Navigraph\
* Please note that both the \db\ and \data\ sub-folders contain your downloaded data, and are both critical if making a manual backup/restore.
** The Application Data/AppData directories are hidden by default in Windows. To make these visible, open Windows Explorer and go to Tools -> Folder Options. In the View tab, check "Show hidden files and folders".
FAQT-0026: I get a prompt saying "General Error - Bad Data" when starting nDAC. How can I remove it?
Q: When starting nDAC after an upgrade I get an error saying "General Error - DESC:Bad Data. , SRC:mscorlib, LINE:0". How can I remove it so that I can use nDAC again?
A: To solve this problem, follow these steps:
- Make a backup of the nDAC local user folder. See FAQ item 25 for the location of this folder.
- Uninstall nDAC and remove the nDAC local user folder.
- Re-install nDAC.
- Start nDAC.
- If it works, close nDAC, restore the backup of the nDAC local user folder (from step 1) and start nDAC again.
FAQT-0027: Why do I get the creditcard gateway error "(05) transaction denied"?
Q: I just entered my credit card details on the Charge Credits page but received the "(05) transaction denied" error. Why?
A: There are many potential causes to this problem:
- Funds are missing on your card/account. Choose another card with funds available.
- You have typed some card details (card number, holder name, or CVV code) incorrectly. Please try again and make sure no typing mistakes are made.
- There is a temporary connection problem between your bank and our credit card gateway. Please try again in a while.
- There is a permanent connection problem between your bank and our credit card gateway. Please use the PayPal option where you can normally enter your credit card details without opening a PayPal account.
FAQT-0028: Why can't I download the charts again for free after my hard drive crashed?
Q: I recently had a hard drive failure. All my downloaded data is gone and I unfortunately don't have any backups of my charts. Why can't I download them again from your site for free?
A: The principal reasons why we cannot allow users who lost data to download the data again are:
- We update the chart data every three months. We don't keep old revisions. If we were to allow you to download all the charts again you would be given a free update on all of your charts. This is a service we request that you pay for.
- If downloading the same data several times was allowed it would be possible to share an account over several nDAC installations. Something that would encourage piracy and usage not conforming to the license agreement.
- If the general attitude towards caring for downloaded data was "I can always download it again", we would at some point be forced to upgrade server capacity which adds an unnecessary overhead to prices.
